Lyssa Harvey Ed.S. is a teacher, therapist and an artist. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and owner of The Art and Play Therapy Center of South Carolina. Her private practice focuses on counseling children, adolescents and families. Lyssa graduated from the University of Georgia and completed her Masters in Art Therapy at The Hertsfordshire University in England and her Ed.S in Counseling at the University of South Carolina. Lyssa is a National Provider for the American Play Therapy Association and is a S.C. Department of Labor and Licensing provider for Licensed Professional Counselors. In her capacity as a supervisor for Licensed Professional Counselors, Lyssa has credentialed over 50 therapists for the State of South Carolina in the last 15 years. Lyssa’s interest in helping children and individuals with special needs led her to develop Art and Play Therapy programs in Richland School District I, Palmetto Baptist and Richland Hospitals, and The Palmetto Richland Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, where there is now a permanent Art Therapy exhibit entitled The Children of Hope. She has served on the Edventure Children’s Museum task force to develop programs for children with special needs. Lyssa was appointed by Governor Hodges to serve as the Second District Commissioner for the SC Department of Disabilities and Special Needs from 2001-2006. She worked with the SC Arts Commission to develop a statewide arts program called Caring Colors for adults with dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease and to provide Arts and Accessibilities training throughout S.C. Lyssa has recently created The Shalom Art Project, which is a community mural project. Many different groups have participated, such as the Wounded Warrior Program at Fort Jackson, The USC Dance Marathon, and the Young Adult Division of the CJF, creating murals that are hanging on walls in Columbia agencies and care facilities. Lyssa has presented at state and national conferences on Creativity and Counseling Children through Art and Play.
